The love for yam pottage in Nigeria is real, you can get them in almost all the local restaurants around. It’s popularly known as Asaro amongst the Yoruba tribe. This dish “Yam Pottage” is a combination of yam and tomato stew sauce with some other assortments.

Porridge always taste good, this is because of all the condiments added to bring a unique flavour, you can always spice it to your own thing which brings us to this recipe “Potato and Fish Porridge”.

This recipe is very easy to make and it is still the same process as making a yam pottage, the only slight change is the addition of sweet potatoes. This is a meal you can definitely bank on when you need something light and nutritious. Pottato and Fish Porridge is mostly prepared as a child recipe, so it’s best to avoid using bony fish when preparing this meal.

  1. Grind the black pepper
  2. Wash the potatoes, fish, beef and spinach leaves
  3. Cut the potatoes, fish and beef to different sizes of your choice
  4. Dice the onions and the spinach leaves, set them aside
  5. Put the potatoes in the pot, pour enough water to cook the amount of potatoes you have, then add onions, beef, pepper and seasoning cubes on top
  6. Place the fish on top of the ingredients, cover the pot, and allow to cook.  Leave the fish to boil for about 5 minutes then turn to the other side to allow it cook well.
  7. Remove the fish, then add palm oil and salt for taste
  8. Stir, cover, and allow to cook on high temperature till the water becomes thick like a porridge
  9. When the potato is well cooked, add the fish and stir the food gently then turn the cooker of.
  10. Serve on a plate, add spinach leaves to design the dish
