How To Make Vanilla Extract
So we are right back on course today trying to make a spice/seasoning/extract… with just about the amount of the very flavours we want included. Today, it’s Vanilla Extract! Here is a simple DIY method:
Serves: 1 quart
Prep time: 2-8 months
Ingredients:
6-7 Vanilla beans (for a quart of vanilla extract)
6-8 Vodka to fill jar
Preparation:
- Split the beans lengthwise
- Then chop into 3-4 inch pieces
- Place the beans into your glass jar and fill to the top with vodka
- Steep 2 to 8 months (2 months should be fine for a pint, but the longer it sits the better it gets so no worries if you forget about it for a few months)
