Doctors recommend we take five portions of fruit and vegetables daily. With the fast-paced living many of us practice in Lagos, it can be hard trying to fit this into our eating schedule. But it really shouldn’t seem like a chore. You can certainly spice things up and make fruit time a fun time. If you’ve got kids, you can get them involved in slicing fruits into various shapes. You can also opt for a fruit cocktail with all your favourite bits inside. A couple of days a week, why not blend yourself a smoothie – my favourite is watermelon, pineapple and ginger (for that extra kick!).
If you’re a mango lover, take advantage of the current season which only lasts a couple of months a year. Being a mango junkie myself, what I usually do is eat as much as I can throughout the season and then also regularly peel, slice and store in the freezer so that I have a decent stash for the off-season. With this, I can add in some yoghurt and make a nice, thick, creamy smoothie…yum, yum, yum! Don’t miss out on the wonders of fruits, get in the habit today.
