Growing up as a kid, there are some things you dread hearing. When you’re playing with your siblings and something goes wrong and they say ‘you’re in soup’, you know that when mummy and daddy get home, double wahala will be unleashed.
Well, tonight, no one is in trouble. We know that as a typical Naija man or woman nothing is more satisfying than a plate of swallow and your favourite soup. We love rice, pasta and all other foreign foods like pizza and burgers but nothing says ‘original naija‘ like some swallow and hot soup. This is why no matter what end of the earth we find ourselves in, we go hunting for the nearest joint to get our naija fix.
For those of you thinking of japa-ing, this is something to ponder on. Like Israel, Davido’s logistics manager recently found out on a trip to London, Naija food can cost a pretty penny abroad. In his case, he lamented having to pay the equivalent of N25,000 for a bowl of eba and ogbono!
If only for your love of our local food, you may want to consider staying back home. This will certainly be one case where you should think with your stomach and not your head. A word is enough for the wise…and for the wise ones, when next you’re looking to prepare your favourite soup, don’t stress yourself with trips to the market. Instead, grab your phone and browse through the Supermart app for hundreds of local vegetables and other soup ingredients. We’ve got everything from ugwu, oha, efo, ewedu, bitter leaf, water leaf to okra as well as the finest fish and meat to accompany the meal.
